Hand in hand, they have co-created multiple movies together, \u201dthe muses\u201d immersing themselves into a different character created by the same person over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2Hv7hFl\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">We have already explored some of these (seemingly) symbiotic relationships<\/a>. She was preparing her first feature film, The Virgin Suicides, on a modest budget and with a lot of doubts, and Dunst was about to become her leading lady.&nbsp;<em>\u201cI remember being struck by her bubbly, all-American cheerleader look\u200a\u2014\u200aand then this depth in her eyes, a wise sadness combined with all her effervescence,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>she wrote for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2018\/jan\/25\/sofia-coppola-on-the-virgin-suicides-director-debut\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dunst explained that Coppola has always had a positive influence on her, giving her confidence that she might not have had otherwise.&nbsp;<em>\u201cShe said to me, \u2018I love your teeth; don\u2019t ever fix your teeth.\u2019 I remember doing a \u2018Spider-Man\u2019 movie later, and one of the producers was like, \u2018I need to take you to the dentist!\u2019 But I just knew I was never doing that. Sofia is the chicest, coolest girl, and she thinks my teeth are great,<\/em>\u201d she recalled for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2017\/film\/features\/kirsten-dunst-sofia-coppola-beguiled-sex-cannes-film-festival-nicole-kidman-1202425358\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Variety<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coppola continued to develop her very own distinct visual and narrative style that remained unapologetically female throughout the years, and Dunst remained a part of the journey. The director thoroughly enjoys exploring the actress\u2019 melancholic, \u201csteely\u201d depth: something she\u2019s done masterfully in their newest collaboration, The Beguiled.&nbsp;<em>\u201cI like casting her in this because it\u2019s so opposite her personality. The actress admitted that she was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2009\/aug\/23\/almodovar-cruz-film-interview\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obsessed with his films<\/a>ever since she was a teenager.&nbsp;<em>\u201cHe changed the way I looked at the world before I even knew him. There is no one even close to him. I am always comparing everything to working with him,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their collaboration started with a small role of a prostitute in Live Flesh (1992), and it didn\u2019t take long until the stunning actress conquered Hollywood, won the \u201cpretty girl\u201d parts in big studio films and filled the tabloids. Almod\u00f3var went as far as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.ie\/entertainment\/movies\/saving-penelope-cruz-from-hollywood-26415459.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stating<\/a>&nbsp;that he has saved her from Hollywood, as \u201c<em>they don\u2019t know how to use actresses<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He publicly admires her looks and talent and has created unforgettable characters for Cruz. Under his direction, she became an HIV-positive nun, pregnant by a transvestite in All About My Mother, a fearless matriarch of a broken family in Volver and an aspiring actress in Broken Embraces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does Almod\u00f3var consider her a muse?&nbsp;<em>\u201cShe is a muse for me in the sense that a muse is someone who makes you better than you are. We don\u2019t even have to talk much about the role, but he tailors it to me like haute couture,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ozon ever wrote their first collaboration, Under the Sand, specifically for her. Rampling used to suffer from depression as a result of her sister\u2019s suicide that she kept secret in order to protect her mother. In Under the Sand, she revisits this trauma\u200a\u2014\u200ashe portrays a woman whose husband goes for a swim during their vacation and never returns. Instead of coming to terms with his probable death, she refuses to acknowledge it, even when his badly decomposed body is eventually found. She acknowledged that this role&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.interviewmagazine.com\/film\/charlotte-rampling\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was cathartic<\/a>.&nbsp;<em>\u201cI\u2019d been through many different periods of self-doubt and depression. It was really Under the Sand that cemented my coming back. I said\u200a\u2014\u200ayeah, I\u2019ve still got things to say on screen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The actress known for her bold movie choices keeps regularly appearing in Ozon\u2019s films. DuVernay caught the attention of the famous TV host after she watched her first film, Middle of Nowhere.&nbsp;<em>\u201cI don\u2019t have a lot of friends but I\u2019m going to be friends with her. I ended up having a big luncheon at my house just so I could invite her,\u201d<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2017\/06\/winfrey-duvernay-produced-by-1202111145\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Winfrey recalled<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their relationship goes beyond the director &amp; muse combination: yes, Winfrey starred in DuVernay\u2019s films, but she has also become her producer.
