To cut right to the chase, no more Game of Thrones series is planned, but there are spin-offs with House of the Dragon season 2 already earmarked for realize, which we’ll get into below.

House of the Dragon – the spin-off (Summer 2024 on HBO)

Official HBO House of the Dragon Trailer

One of the most anticipated Game of Thrones spinoffs is House of the Dragon, a prequel focusing on House Targaryen, scheduled to premiere in August 2022. The first series has already been a hit amongst Game of Thrones fans. Many also hope it will make up for what many say was an appalling ending to kill off the show with the two directors.

House of the Dragon is the first offering of HBO’s long-awaited plan to expand Game of Thrones further than the original concept. It’s about the Dance of the Dragons, a Targaryen civil war pitting sister against brother, uncle-husband against brother-husband, and dragon against dragon.

The main aspect of this show is that it is set two hundred years prior to the Game of Thrones stories, meaning that, of course, none of the characters from the original Game of Thrones actually appear in it. The information within George R.R. Martin’s sourced material is immense giving him an abundance of content for the House of the Dragon, which is mainly based on his 2018 novel Fire & Blood.

When the original Game of Thrones started, Robert Baratheon was on the Iron Throne, yet he died early in Season 1, thus spawning the ‘game’ to win the Iron Throne, hence the name of the series. The Lannisters were the ruling family of the Seven Kingdoms and fought to keep their enemies at bay so they could hold onto the throne.

The Targaryens were another family making their mark in the Game of Thrones, with Emilia Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke, posing as the main threat to the throne. Daenerys and her brother were hiding in exile. The House of the Dragon is set during the period of time when Viserys I, played by Paddy Considine, their ancestor, is King. His younger Brother, Prince Daemion Targaryen, played by Matt Smith, is a legendary warrior. Viserys’ Daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D’Arcy, believes she is next in line for the throne, but that is not necessarily so ……

This is the main theme of the House of Dragon, and a civil war results in the complete break up of the Targaryen family. The supporters of Rhaenyra were up against the supporters of the Prince, who is Visery’s eldest Son by his second Wife, Queen Alicent, portrayed by Olivia Cooke, leading to a battle within the family. Exciting airborne battles ensued with the Dragonriders, as the Tagaryens were known, riding dragons and battling each other involving many characters.

A Disappointing Ending to Game of Thrones

It is a shame Game of Thrones series 8 had such a diabolical ending. How the directors thought fans would be OK with the way they killed off the series is, for many, disgraceful. Seasons 1 to 7 offered gripping entertainment. Plus, the many characters built up along the way made fans feel like a special ending was coming. Yet, the grand finale ‘Season 8’ was a joke!

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ruined hours of viewers’ time watching and building up to the eventual battle versus the White Walkers, which, for want of a better word, was ‘lame.’ A poor ending to what would have been one of the best series made.

Thankfully, the new House of the Dragon directors are Clare Kilner, Greg Yaitanes, and Alan Taylor.

Let’s hope David Benioff and D.B. Weiss learn from their colossal mistake. I, for one, will never watch a series made by these two guys for fear of a bad ending. They are currently working on ‘Death by Lightning,’ which most Game of Thrones fans will likely avoid. Unless they’ve learned from their Game of Thrones disastrous ending and when it is all said and done, people are not complaining about Death by Lightning, then maybe some fans will watch it after the fact. We always believe in second chances.

Calls for Game of Thrones Season 8 to be Remade

Although fans called for a remake of season 8, it seems unlikely. Yet, fans have some solace asHouse of the Dragon is, in a way, making up for it. Well, let’s just say David Benioff and D.B. Weiss should never create another series because it will lead up to a quick ending that makes no sense whatsoever. Yes, that’s how bitter fans are about how they ended Game of Thrones. Thanks for nothing, guys!

Why was Game of Thrones so Popular?

A study has indicated that the main reason behind the huge success of Game of Thrones and the series of novels by George R.R. Martin is in the main due to the large number of characters who appear in the series, which became one of the largest and most popular worldwide. The first season premiered in 2011 and received excellent reviews with an extremely loyal following from its fans. Martin’s series of novels titled

The series was initially based on a Song of Fire and Ice. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the shows’ creators, thought they would alter the theme away from the original material during the many years of the production. The loyal fan base was shaken when the creators announced that the show would end after series 8. It was felt that the series could have run for a number of further seasons. Martin also agreed with this thought. The previously loyal fan base was highly critical of this decision, believed many more seasons could have been made, and formed a petition asking that series 8 should be remade.

Famously, Game of Thrones has one of the most dedicated and loyal fan bases worldwide, which explains why the final season was so controversial. They may have been fans of the show from the beginning or were readers of the novels, but the legion of fans felt that after following the many characters for years from the very beginning, they really deserved a better ending. Rarely does such a series develop such a global phenomenon in the same way as Game of Thrones has. A team including mathematicians, physicists, and psychologists believe they have discovered the reason behind this phenomenal success story.

Their study concludes that the main reasoning is the interaction between the many characters in the novel, which is extremely close to how relationships are in life itself. These experts discovered that with over two thousand named characters in the series and over 41 thousand interactions between them, it seems to generally average out to the number of relationships we humans can expect to handle in life itself.
