What’s The Deal With Apple Dropping Crazy Cash on These Films?

Tick-tock Applewood! How long will Apple continue releasing movies in the red?

I get asked a lot – what’s Apple’s endgame spending $200 million on movies like Argylle? Don’t get me wrong, theaters are begging for films to show. But even Apple’s giant pile of cash has limits if their flicks keep bombing.

Argylle was seriously hyped, yet the movie has picked up $18 million in domestic earnings and has only taken in $35 million on the global stage. Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon also boasted big budgets into the $150 million mark, but their earnings are in the red.

The idea is these big budget pick-ups are supposed to be loss leaders. Ya know, take a hit on the movie itself but use it to pull in subscribers. But c’mon, Apple was already printing money before they started burning Benjamins on martial arts stars and Scorsese passion projects.

Maybe these films get a tiny bump in Apple TV+ sign-ups. Hovever, that’s some expensive advertising if sign-ups are the goal. But is anyone really getting a new iPhone because Henry Golding knows kung fu? I’m not seeing it. Point is – Apple’s got more money than most worth $2.87 trillion, but sooner or later, the company needs to make these creative bets pay off consistently. Even tech giants run out of patience when the red ink keeps flowing.

Did you enjoy Argylle? Here’s the trailer. Did the trailer meet your expectations? We’d love to know!

Nolan Talks About Oppenheimer’s Crazy Success

In contrast to AppleTVs big budget flops, director Christopher Nolan recently talked about how his movie Oppenheimer made a ton of money, which is kind of nuts for a long, R-rated drama. It’s made nearly $1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing drama ever about a historical figure.

Nolan said this shows people still love going out to see new and original stuff, not just sequels. He thinks Oppenheimer doing so well will get Hollywood to gamble on more weird, one-of-a-kind ideas that you wouldn’t expect to be hits.

Are Franchises On Their Way Out?

With Oppenheimer crushing it and some huge superhero movies disappointing people recently, Nolan wonders if we’re entering a post-franchise era. That would mean Hollywood depending less on tried-and-true franchises and more on never-before-seen original stories.

But Nolan says you still need big franchises to pay for other flicks. There has to be a good mix of franchises and new stuff for Hollywood to stay healthy. The important thing is movies have to surprise people and show them stuff they didn’t know they wanted. That’s what gets people to buy tickets.

So while franchises probably aren’t disappearing, “Oppenheimer” shows studios that audiences are totally down for bold, original stories. Its success might lead to more studios taking chances on crazy ideas from filmmakers. And that would be awesome news for directors and movie fans.

Again! Did you enjoy Oppenheimer? Here’s the trailer. Did the trailer meet your expectations? We’d love to know!

Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino Reunite for Final Film

Famous actor Brad Pitt is teaming up once again with legendary director Quentin Tarantino. The two worked together on the hits “Inglourious Basterds” in 2009 and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2019. Pitt even won an Oscar for his role in the latter film.

Now Pitt and Tarantino are reuniting for what the director says will be his final movie, called “The Movie Critic.” Not many details have been shared yet, but it’s possible Pitt will play the title character. The film is expected to come out in 2025.

Tarantino’s Inspiration Comes from His Youth

Tarantino spilled some backstory about his inspiration at the Cannes Film Festival. He shared that when he was a teen, he had a job putting adult magazines into vending machines. Most were too dirty to read, but one magazine had a movie review section he really liked. There was one critic in particular who stood out for his entertaining takes.

The director says the new movie will take place in the 1970s. It will follow a real-life obscure critic who wrote for adult magazines back then. Of course, Tarantino is known for putting his own creative spin on true stories!

Could Pitt Reprise His Recent Role?

Rumors are floating that Pitt might be playing Cliff Booth, his character from “Once Upon a Time.” Fans got to learn more about Booth’s passion for movies in Tarantino’s recent novel based on the film. It would be exciting to see the former stuntman become a quirky film critic. But Tarantino has apparently rewritten parts of the script already, so Booth might not return.

In any case, folks are pumped to see what Tarantino and Pitt cook up together this time around. If their track record says anything, it’s bound to thrill movie buffs across the globe. We’ll be waiting for more news on what’s sure to be a hot final act for both!

What do you think? Will the duo make yet another box office hit and meet the standards of Oppenheimer or will Pitt and Tarantino create another Applewood-style flop? Spoiler from us – have you ever heard of a Tarantino film flopping? I think we all know the answer to these questions already!
